Manu Temple at Manali is sacred and auspicious to the people of the region since there is no other temple dedicated to the creator of human race in the country. The Manu Temple has remained as one of the primary Manali tourist attractions since time immemorial.

Manu Temple is located in old Manali, at a distance of approximate 3 km from the main market of Manali. The temple is dedicated to the Indian sage Manu , great Manu, who is said to be the creator of the world and the writer of “Manusmriti”. Though temple is situated in a congested place, visitors from across the globe come to visit it. The charming location of Manu Temple, on the bank side of river Beas, adds to its attraction.

The temple of great Manu was reconstructed in the year 1992, when the vaulted ceiling and marble floors were added. Manali Honeymoon couples are advised to wear dresses covering the knees and shoulders, while inside the temple. To reach the temple, one has to traverse through the slippery stone paths that lie before its premises. The ancient temple is a prominent place of worship for the local people of Manali, who arrive everyday to offer their pray to the creator of humanity. Local people consider it sacred and auspicious and visit it regularly. Its popularity also lies in the fact that it is the only temple dedicated to Manu – the creator of human race, in India.

Manu Temple has remained as one of the primary Manali tourist attractions, since times immemorial. It is believed to be the place where sage Manu meditated after stepping on earth. Manali has a distinct historical background that is appealing to most people who visit the pilgrim spot. According to Hindu mythology, Manu sage is the divine creator of the human race in the world. It was in this region that the sage dwelt and meditated. Whenever you visit Manali, make sure to see the temple too. The Manalsu River flows right next to the Hadimba Temple and on the opposite bank lies the old village of Manali, also known as the original Manali.

Manu is said to be the creator of the human race and in fact Manali gets its name from Manu Alava, meaning the home of Manu. You can opt to take a scenic walk up the hill to the temple, it takes about half an hour is well worth the effort. In fact, on the sixth day of Phagun, a huge fair dedicated to Manu Maharaj is held called Phagi and is open to all. Some sources say that the temple marks the spot where Manu Maharaj first placed his foot while getting off the boat that carried him during the world-destroying flood. Others say this is where he mediated. Either way, it’s a special spot and shouldn’t be missed.

Hidimba Devi Temple, also known as the Hadimba Temple, is located in Manali, a hill station in the State of Himachal Pradesh in north India. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, sister of Hidimba, who was a character in the Indian epic, Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest at the foot of the Himalayas. The sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground, which was worshiped as an image of the deity. The structure was built in the year 1553.

Hadimba, a ‘Rakshashi’ in the Mahabharat has been deified and is worshipped in this area. According to Mahabharat ‘Hadimb Rakshash’ ruled some of the sub-mountainous tracts of the Himalayas. His sister was Hadimba or Hidimba.

The Hidimbi Devi Temple has intricately carved wooden doors and a 24 meters tall wooden “shikhar” or tower above the sanctuary. The tower consists of three square roofs covered with timber tiles and a fourth brass cone-shaped roof at the top. The earth goddess Durga forms the theme of the main door carvings. The temple base is made out of whitewashed, mud-covered stonework. An enormous rock occupies the inside of the temple, only a 7.5 cm (3 inch) tall brass image representing goddess Hidimbi Devi. A rope hangs down in front of the rock, and according to a legend, in bygone days religious zealots would tie the hands of “sinners” by the rope and then swing them against the rock.

About 70 metres away from the temple, there is a shrine dedicated to Goddess Hidimba’s son, Ghatotkacha who was born after she married Bhima.

As per another legend, the architect of the temple had to lose his hand for this masterpiece. King was afraid of duplication of the master craft and he ordered architect’s hand to be cut. This anecdote might have some portion of reality and truth, with only the temple being a mute witness. It is also said that this could not stop the master architect, who trained his left hand and at the request of the people, executed an even finer temple at Trilokinath in Chamba.

The temple is also known for a fair held every year in Hindi month of Sravan in the memory of Raja Bahadur Singh, who built the temple. The fair is popularly known as Bahadur Singh Re Jatar among locals. There is another fair too which is held on 14th May each year in the celebration of birthday of Hadimba Devi. Women around and from Dhungri forest come and celebrates this fair with music and dance.

Rohtang Pass is 51 KM from Manali , is a high mountain pass way that connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahul and Spiti valleys of Himachal Pradesh, India. It has become a real summer tourist spot.As everyone can touch the nature in the peak time of summer .

The Rohtang Pass is the highest point on the Manali- Keylong Road. It is also one of the most beautiful spots in the vicinity. Located at an altitude of 4112 meters above sea level, the spot promises an exquisite view of the surrounding mountain ranges.

The regions beyond the Rohtang Pass are remote and cut away from the reach of the tourists. These predominantly Buddhist areas promise you an ascetic and haunting view. Being a bit inaccessible to the modern civilization has helped the place to retain its pure and untouched beauty. There are great trekking opportunities around the Rohtang Pass near Manali, though the skiing scopes are limited.

In winter the mountain slopes are snow clad and they turn into perfect skiing slopes. This point is one of the main attraction for tourists coming to Manali.

This pass opens for tourist from April end to October end of the year. The permission to travel on this highway is given by Indian army after they clear the snow and inspect the road for it’s fitness and safety for movement of person and the vehicles. The same road connects to Leh Ladakh ( State of Jammu & Kashmir ) from Manali ( state of Himachal Pradesh). Sonepani Glacier and a small lake (Dashahr) are located opposite and left to Rohtang respectively.
